AN UNFAIR TAX ON US

The title of Amendment 58 says it all: “State taxes shall be increased $321.4 million annually….”
That’s a very large tax increase, which will pass through to all of us. Higher home heating bills, higher gasoline prices, higher everything. And that’s why, under Colorado law, it has to go to a vote of the people. It is not simply “retiring a subsidy” as the proponents of Amendment 58 would like you to believe. Read Amendment 58 carefully. The real promise of Amendment 58 is higher taxes, higher fuel costs, higher heating bills and higher tuition.

Why Your Vote Is Important

The poorly considered Amendment 58 is an empty promise; the language is vague and bursting with unintended consequences. The revenue from severance taxes is a valuable resource to help citizens throughout our state. That’s why it is so important that severance tax revenue is used judiciously. Amendment 58 doesn’t do that. Equally important, by not addressing the tremendous problem of state funding for college operating costs, 58 fails to accomplish one of its biggest goals – lowering costs for Colorado college students. College tuition and taxes, will go up if 58 passes.
